FAQS

What exactly are mobile alerts?
Teletext's mobile alerts are SMS (Short Messaging Service) text messages sent to your mobile phone. They are a quick and cheap way of receiving information (up to a maximum of 160 characters) and rely on the telecommunication networks developed by mobile phone companies.

How much do the alerts cost?
Unless otherwise stated, our alerts will cost you 25p per message. The text message that you send us to subscribe will be charged at your standard text rate (see your network operator for details).

Why can't I subscribe?
Anyone with a UK registered mobile phone should be able to receive our alerts. If you're having problems, double check that you're sending the correct code to the correct number. It doesn't matter if you send the code in lower or upper case, but rogue punctuation like commas or full stops will cause the subscription to fail. If you still haven't received a subscription confirmation message within 24 hours, contact us on 020 8323 5000.

Why can't I unsubscribe?
It's most likely to be caused by sending an incorrect cancel code or sending to an incorrect cancel number. If in doubt, just send STOP to the same number you originally subscribed to. This will unsubscribe you from ALL Teletext services.

The Teletext alerts service is automated and will not respond to requests that do not follow the correct cancellation procedure. If you are cancelling a single service, please ensure you are cancelling the correct one, for example Teletext offers several tips services.

How do I know the messages are from Teletext?
You can tell our messages by the number they are sent from. All Teletext messages are sent from 68886.

I am receiving messages but I did not ask for them?
Please check with other family members or friends that they have not registered your phone on your behalf, as Teletext cannot subscribe anyone without a sign-up message being sent from your phone number. If you have purchased your phone recently then it is likely that your mobile number has been re-issued by your network provider and that someone with your number previously registered to receive Teletext alerts. If this is the case, please send STOP to 68886 and then contact your network provider for a refund.

I am not receiving my alerts or they arrive late.
Please make sure your mobile phone is switched on and your inbox is not full. If you have a pay-as-you-go phone, check you have sufficient credit and that you have a signal. Teletext relies on your network provider to send the alerts to your mobile phone and delays may occur if your network is busy.
