Dunguib is in top trim after his latest demolition job in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown.

Trainer Philip Fenton reported the Supreme Novices' Hurdle favourite will now have 10 days rest before his preparation for Cheltenham begins.

He said: "He ate most of his food and there's not a bother on him. He won't have a saddle on his back for 10 days now, he'll have a complete break."

Jumping examined

Philip Fenton hopes Dunguib's jumping stands up to the test of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

He said: "He might have hit nearly every hurdle (on Sunday) but the fastest he was going in the race, the final hurdle, was the best he jumped so we'll just have to hope the fast pace at Cheltenham will improve his jumping.

"It was important he didn't have a hard race - it was ideal."

Jon's golden future

Paul Nolan hopes Joncol can develop into a genuine contender for next year's Cheltenham Gold Cup after his heroic display at Leopardstown.

The giant 7yo got the better of Cooldine and Schindlers Hunt to lift the Hennessy Gold Cup yesterday.

Nolan said: "Hopefully he'll improve enough to be a contender for next year. If we can get him more battle-hardened, there is improvement there."

Punchestown preference

Hennessy hero Joncol could skip the Ryanair Chase in favour of the Guinness Gold Cup at the Punchestown Festival.

Trainer Paul Nolan said: "It would be very hard to have him peaking for the Ryanair. We've run well every race this season and we might need to freshen him up now and wait for Punchestown.

"We'll have to make up our minds because the most he can have off is a week if we had Cheltenham in mind."
